Popcorn Ceiling Removal & Refinishing

Textured ceilings date an interior faster than almost anything else. Removing them is one of the few changes that makes a unit or a home read as updated without touching the layout, which is why it comes up so often before a sale, a listing or a new resident.

Where this work comes up

Popcorn ceiling removal and refinishing is scheduled across condominium units, multifamily turns and residential homes preparing for a modern finish.

  • Condominium units — Units changing hands where the ceiling is the most visible dated feature.
  • Apartment units — Unit upgrades scheduled during a turn, when the unit is already vacant and protected.
  • Homes — Interior updates before selling, listing or simply modernizing a room.

How the work is done

The room is protected before anything starts, because this is a messy process and the cleanup is most of the job.

  • Full protection of floors, walls, fixtures and openings
  • Texture removal
  • Surface preparation and smoothing
  • Repair of any damage revealed during removal
  • Priming and finish painting
  • Cleanup and removal of protection

Combine it with painting

A ceiling that has just been refinished sits directly above walls that usually need attention too. Scheduling both together means one setup, one protection phase and one cleanup rather than two.

An important note on older ceilings

Textured ceilings installed before the 1980s can contain materials that require testing and specialized handling. If the property predates that period, testing should happen before removal, and that testing and any regulated abatement fall outside Teem's scope. We will say so directly rather than proceed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, for condominium units, apartment units and homes.

Refinishing and painting are normally quoted together, since the ceiling has to be finished after the texture comes off.

It is far better done in a vacant unit or an empty room, because of the protection and cleanup the process requires.
